Ways To Work In Improving Confidence And Mental Toughness

In life we all experience moments that shake our confidence. From failures , rejections , setbacks or even long periods of stress and doubt . It’s normal to feel down but staying there is definitely not a good idea. You need to work on regaining your confidence and mental strength.

  • Start where you are use what you have and keep going …your comeback story is already unfolding! keeping in mind , “you are not starting over you are getting wiser”.
  • Celebrate how far you have come not how far you have to go. celebrate progress not perfection.
  • Accept who you are without judgement , acknowledging how you feel .
  • Pretending everything is fine doesn’t help, be honest with yourself but also resist self criticism.
  • Changing your inner dialogues to yourself say things like i am doing my best , I can and do this’ and “I am improving and learning every time i do something.
  • Accepting it and making peace with it by improving yourself.
  • Surrounding yourself with supportive people spending time with people who uplift you , give you a right direction . not influencing you with toxic patterns .

confidence often gets crushed when something doesn’t go as we hoped , remembering that every setbacks carry a lesson it is a part of life and than moving forward .. analysing what went wrong? Taking care of your body is necessary in all aspects of life . And as it is been said your physical health and mental health are always connected. Not necessary to follow a intense workout routine but just moving your body and doing what you enjoy and doing something that brings you happiness.

Dr. Joe Risser Md, Mph shares his personal views and understanding on how anyone can improve mental toughness with the example of a simple exercise called “Plank” on Tedx Talk .

He says plank is not just a core exercise but a mental powerhouse. A simple yoga pose , but might be one of the best exercise for mental toughness. For example, Doing plank just 60 seconds , you will have thoughts like , “I can’t do this” “or “I am gonna collapse!” And when you push through those feelings” . You hold on , you tell yourself… just one more second… and you make it to 60 seconds . This shows how much you are capable of and it is just your mind you need to push and train.
